The Independent Garage Association (IGA) has announced that for the remainder of the year, the DVSA will be attending its Member Events to provide an update on MOT Modernisation and other issues affecting MOT Garages.

The events, held around the country are usually for IGA members but they will now be open to all MOT stations to assist the DVSA in engaging with the trade.

The MOT Modernisation Project is building a new ‘web-based’ system to replace the existing VTS devices and will go live by September 2015. It will modernise and simplify MOT processes and policies in order to improve road safety and test quality.

The DVSA presentations will be led by their Trade Engagement Manager Ian Marsh.

“The new system allows testers to use portable devices to enter results while they examine vehicles in the test bay”, Marsh comments.

“In this way it will offer the MOT trade greater flexibility and choice in how it decides to test. We’ll be introducing the new system following a phased roll-out across the UK in the first half of 2015 and will be publishing advice and guidance to support testers and garages during this transition period”.

DVSA will be sending out regular email alerts from its Matters of Testing blog to make sure the trade receives the latest updates about new system. It only takes a few minutes to sign up at the following link - MOT Modernisation email alerts.

Anyone who has any questions or suggestions about MOT Modernisation should email their feedback to mot.modernisation@vosa.gsi.gov.uk.

IGA Director Stuart James said, “We are delighted to be able to work with the DVSA to help its engagement programme with garages and we look forward to meeting many more garages at our events throughout the remainder of the year”.

If you are not an IGA member and would like to attend an event, please call 0845 305 4230 to register your interest. For a full list of venues and dates please click here.
