The Independent Garage Association (IGA) welcomes the draft Consumer Rights Bill, announced today.

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) outlined the proposals in the draft Consumer Rights Bill, which aims to streamline overlapping and complicated areas from eight pieces of legislation into one consumer Bill.

Stuart James, IGA Director commented “The Bill will simplify the often complicated legislation surrounding consumer law. This will benefit both consumers and businesses who often find the current law difficult to understand and implement.

““The IGA already run a consumer focused scheme called Trust My Garage which reflects and reinforces the high standards in the service and repair industry. Therefore the Bill complements our existing work by ensuring high standards of goods and services are provided to consumers.

“The IGA is aware that the independent garage sector has come under a level of substantiated and unquantified criticism recently. However we understand customers need reassurance which is why we aim to support the good guys and drive out the bad guys.

“The IGA looks forward to working with Government in representing the interests of independent garages who are committed to quality and customer service.
