Karl Vella Group becomes latest NAB supporter

The National Association of Bodyshops (NAB) welcomes yet another high profile member as the Karl Vella Group, one of the North West’s leading independent bodyshop groups, has joined the fold.

The Karl Vella Group was established by current chairman Karl Vella MBE, who opened his first bodyshop in Southport in 1986. With the help of just one apprentice, Karl built a reputation for high quality and attention to detail which soon resulted in a steady increase in business. The company has since expanded to a network of four strategically placed Kitemark-approved car body repair centres in Skelmersdale, Preston and Barrow in addition to the original site in Southport, which has grown significantly.

The Karl Vella bodyshop group has a turnover of over £9million, and employs over 160 people, repairing over 9,000 vehicles per year. Karl Vella’s personal commitment to developing young people’s skills and training was recognised in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, when he was awarded an MBE.

Commenting on his reasons for re-joining NAB, Karl Vella MBE said:  “In the past we were members of several trade associations and pulled away from all of them; however we have been watching the recent initiatives and activities of NAB and with our former Director, Frank Harvey heading up the RMI’s new bodyshop association, NAB, the time is right for our return.”

“Our industry needs a strong unifying voice to represent bodyshops, particularly given the current investigation into private motor insurance by the Competition Commission. We are delighted to add our passion and commitment to support NAB’s cause.”

Frank Harvey, Head of NAB says: “To have the support of the Karl Vella Group is absolutely fantastic.  Attracting bodyshops of their stature is an indication that we are gaining rapid momentum and credibility.”

With the appointment of Karl’s son David Vella as Operations Director, the company is poised for future growth through expansion into additional automotive services including a fast turnaround express facility for minor accident damage, servicing and MOTs.
