DISSAPOINTING MONTH FOR PTW SALES

“Although June looks to have been a difficult month for motorcycle sales as a whole, the YTD figures are still holding up well against the prior year even with supply shortages,” said Symon Cook, Head of NMDA, commenting on the latest MCIA new registration figures.

The latest Power Two Wheelers (PTW) registration figures for June 2022 display frequent decline across bike categories in comparison to June 2021. Nevertheless, there were rises in the forms of ‘Other’ Mopeds (67.7%) and ‘Competition’ Motorcycles (22.8%).

It is pleasing to see year-to-date figures rising for Mopeds from 3,209 units in 2021 to 3,652 in 2022 (13.8%) and for Motorcycles from 54,405 units to 59,864 (10%). In addition, engine sizes of 126-650cc experienced an impressive incline of 21.3% year-to-date, from 10,977 units to 13,318.

As petrol price rises, environmental concern rises and demand for home delivery rises, electric Power Two Wheelers (ePTWs) registrations continue to accelerate in all engine sizes bar 1-4kw and 15-35kw.

Honda remains the highest registering bike for June at 2,200, Triumph followed with 1,514 new power-two-wheelers hitting the road, with Yamaha in third position with 1,234 units.

Symon Cook continued “Whilst demand has dropped in comparison to June last year, franchised dealers remain optimistic as we enter the tail end of Summer, a popular time for seasonal riders.”
