In January, there was a -30.5% decrease in total registrations, from 6,043 to 4,201 units. Total motorcycle sales declined by -30.4% from 5,656 to 3,936 units, whilst moped registrations also dropped by -35.3% to 231 units. The majority of motorcycle categories experienced declines during the month, ‘Modern Classic’ saw a decrease of -13.3% for the month to 547 units. ‘Adventure’ dropped by -35.0% to 734 units. ‘Touring’ grew by 48.8% from 80 to 119 units. Electric motorcycles experienced a decline, with registrations dropping from 253 to 172 units, a decrease of -32.0%.

NEW MOTORCYCLE MARKET REGISTRATIONS IN 2024 SURPASS 2023 TOTAL WITH STRONG DECEMBER, ELECTRIC CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE

In December, there was a 114.0% increase in total registrations, from 5,236 to 11,206 units. Total motorcycle sales grew significantly by 122.6% from 4,854 to 10,807 units, whilst moped registrations also increased modestly by 6.0% to 373 units. December’s figures bring total registrations in 2024 to 116,399 units, reflecting a 2.5% increase and narrowly surpassing 2023 total registrations. All motorcycle categories experienced growth during the month, ‘Modern Classic’ saw a substantial increase of 302.7% for the month to 1,486 units. ‘Adventure’ rose by 103.5% to 2,277 units. ‘Scooter’ grew by 105.8% from 1,333 to 2,743 units.

FABIAN HAMILTON MP HOSTS JOINT NMDA-NMC PARLIAMENTARY BREAKFAST

Notably, amongst the attendees, was Fabian Hamilton MP, who hosted the Parliamentary Breakfast and opened proceedings. Speakers at the event included Craig Carey-Clinch, Executive Director of the NMC, Symon Cook, Head of NMDA. There were also positive speeches from Alfie Brierley, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Motor Cycle Industry Association and James Gibson, Executive Director at Road Safety GB. Fabian Hamilton MP was very pleased to host the event, and pointed to the wonderful traditions of motorcycling and the importance of the sector to the UK economy.
