“Following the evidence submitted by the NFDA, it is extremely positive to see that the House of Lords has endorsed our position regarding a number of issues which surround the future of the automotive industry post Brexit”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA).
The NFDA was invited by the House of Lords to submit evidence on trade after Brexit. Issues including car prices, tariff costs as well as possible effects of sterling depreciation were outlined by the association.
Several of NFDA’s concerns were directly referenced in the report published by the House of Lords, which was based on an inquiry conducted by the External Affairs Sub-Committee of the European Union Committee.
Robinson continued, “The NFDA highlighted how the increase in costs of production would impact the end price of vehicles, affecting both consumers and businesses, and how tariffs and customs procedures would impose significant administrative and financial burdens on the import/export of vehicles.
“To ensure the automotive sector continues to be one of the pillars of the UK economy, it is imperative that no further trade barriers are created.
“We are pleased to see that the House of Lords has acknowledged the points we laid out and referenced our submission throughout their report. We will continue to urge the Government to listen to the retail motor industry.”
