NMDA UNVEILS ELECTION MANIFESTO FOR NEXT GOVERNMENT

NMDA 20/06/2024

The National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA), the voice for motorcycle retailers across the country, has today launched its manifesto ahead of the General Election on 4 July. The manifesto highlights critical areas where the future government can positively impact the motorcycle retail sector.

Symon Cook, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK said:

“In the lead-up to the 2024 General Election, it is imperative that policymakers recognise the unique challenges facing motorcycle dealers. The L-category sector plays a critical role in the United Kingdom’s transport system and the economy, reducing congestion and conducting over a billion last-mile deliveries. With over 3.6 million licensed motorcyclists across the UK, future government policies must support this sector.

“As the automotive industry continues its transition towards Net-Zero, the next government must recognise the vital function that L-category vehicles play within this shift and work to provide the necessary support to ensure the sector’s growth. We urge government to help reverse the current decline in electric motorbike adoption, through smart and effective price incentives.

“NMDA’s priorities also look to address other urgent issues, such as the skills shortage in the sector, improving the licensing and training regime, and creating a more equitable business rates framework. These priorities will ensure a more successful, sustainable, and competitive environment for motorcycle dealers in the UK.”

NMDA’s key priorities for the next government:

  1. Provide a clear pathway for the decarbonisation of L-Category Vehicles
  2. Accelerate the market towards net-zero
  3. Fuel the future - Tackle the talent crunch
  4. Level the playing field – Create a fairer business rates framework
  5. Streamlining licensing and training for younger riders
