In June, a total of 213,166 new cars were registered. Sales to private buyers increased by 12.5% whilst fleet deliveries also increased, with a 10.5% change.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) saw the largest growth and registered a 30.0% change, reaching their highest market share so far this year. Plug-in hybrid (PHEVs) registered 26,702 units, marking a 12.5% change and hybrids (HEVs) accounted for 14.0% of the market with 29,874 units registered.

Sue Robinson added:

‘It’s encouraging to see another month of growth for the new car market, reflecting the industry’s efforts to support motorists and businesses looking to invest in new vehicles.

‘Franchised dealers continue to listen to evolving consumer preferences and remain committed to providing customers with the information and support needed to make informed purchasing decisions; these figures are a positive sign for the sector.’
