Motorcycle sales decrease in July

NMDA 08/08/2018

“The motorcycle market was back to its downward trend in July with registrations down -2.5%”, said Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.

240 less machines were put on the road this month compared to the same period last year. However, year to-date, the market was up 1.3% on 2017.

Most power sectors performed well, with the exception of the sub 50cc models with a -24.9% decrease. In 2018, we have also seen a decline in the mid-range power machines (651-1000cc) and whilst it was positive to see registrations pick up in this sector last month, figures were once again down by -2.3% in July.

Latham continued, “Manufacturer wise, Honda topped the list this month with 1,767 registrations, followed by Yamaha in second position with 1,176 sales, and Kawasaki in third position registering 749 machines.

“Dealers are optimistic that the market will pick up over the coming months, especially with the summer months among us, making this a peak time for consumers to purchase new bikes”.
