PRA back Daily Mail campaign to end damaging pingdemic

PRA 28/07/2021

The Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) sign up to Daily Mail campaign to end self-isolation for healthy, double-vaccinated workers.

Some of the largest employers in the UK, including M&S, Boots and Young’s, have backed the letter.

Whilst it is encouraging that the Prime Minister today has confirmed that the ‘Pingdemic’ will end on 16 August, it still leaves forecourt operators with over two weeks of great uncertainty. Forecourt operators are “essential services” and their employees should be exempt from self-isolation if double vaccinated and testing negative for Covid-19.

Gordon Balmer, PRA Executive Director commented: "We are calling on the Government to recognise that our members are a fundamental component of the supply chain. Fuelling stations have played an absolutely vital role in ensuring hauliers, emergency services and businesses across the UK have remained mobile throughout the pandemic. It seems perplexing that the Government would now choose to overlook forecourt staff who are key workers”.
